Job Summary
The Public Safety Ambassadors protect and guard University property (both clinical and nonclinical); maintain order among public and UCSF community; monitor and control entry to restricted areas; inspect areas to prevent fires, accidents and other hazards; direct visitors and answer questions concerning building and/or exhibit layouts.
The job will involve the ability to push and pull up to 25 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods of time; carry and lift 21-30 pounds; run short distances.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.
For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description
The UCSF Police Department provides contemporary police services including criminal investigation, community policing, crime prevention and suppression, emergency management, and site security services to a daily population of over 60,000 people at University and contract locations. Founded in 1864, UCSF includes the 107-acre Parnassus campus that is home to graduate professionals in dentistry, medicine, nursing and pharmacy; a graduate division for pre- and postdoctoral scientists; UCSF Medical Center; UCSF Children’s Hospital; and Langley Porter Psychiatric Institute. UCSF is considered one of the nation’s premier health sciences teaching, training, and research centers. UCSF is the only UC campus dedicated exclusively to the health sciences. Additionally, the department has expanded police and security services to the Mission Bay Campus and Benioff Oakland Children’s Hospital.
The department has achieved accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- BSIS (Guard Card) Certification (completed within one year from date of hire)
- Valid and unrestricted California Driver’s License- Class C.
- General PC knowledge and demonstrated proficiency using MS Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- Excellent customer service and effective problem-solving skills; ability to fluently speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English
- Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress in emergency situations; sound judgment skills
- Demonstrated record of excellent attendance and reliability
Preferred Qualifications
- Current C.P.R. certification
- Basic First Aid certification
- 1-3 years of experience in the security field
- Experience and training in the security field
- Military experience
License/Certification
- BSIS (Guard Card) Certification (completed within one year from date of hire)
- Valid and unrestricted California Driver’s License- Class C.
